Quality & Purpose of Care

At Attivo Care, we provide care and accommodation to young people of both sexes up to the age of eighteen. Many of these children and young people may face emotional and/or behavioural challenges. This encompasses individuals who have a variety of complex needs stemming from their past life experiences, such as attachment difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder, experiences of child sexual exploitation, neglect, physical, emotional, and mental abuse, as well as hidden harm.

Attivo Care’s ethos is to provide care and support to children and young people, focusing on their needs through a thorough admission process. Our staff embrace our core values of empathy, honesty, resilience, and kindness to ensure our young people have every opportunity to move forward with their lives in the best possible way for them. We provide our staff with excellent training to enable them to perform their jobs effectively, and we demonstrate a genuine commitment to our young people, ensuring they feel cared for. We emphasise the significance of boundaries, which the staff acknowledge as equally important. The home is modern and homely, and we encourage the children to help design it. We want our young people to take pride in where they live, and the staff encourage them to help maintain the home day to day, taking care of both interior and exterior spaces.
Recognising the important individuals in our young people’s lives is crucial, and we incorporate plans to maintain contact with friends and family into the planning process. We also strive to establish robust relationships not only with our young people but also with their social workers and the broader social care community.

We assess each young person’s health and needs during the assessment process. If there are no current services in place for the young person, we arrange help and support at the earliest opportunity. It is our utmost responsibility to keep our young people safe from harm, and our staff have an excellent understanding of what they need to do through thorough care plans and risk assessments.

Education is every young person’s right, and it is imperative that our young people attend school or another establishment that better suits their needs. We have excellent links with our closest school, The Lord Derby Academy, and there are other alternative provisions in the area that our young people can access. Some young people have significant gaps in their education, and we endeavour to put the right educational package in place for them. When the time is right, we support our young people to access further education and, if possible, employment in the local area. We meticulously plan transitions for each young person, and should any challenges arise during the transition, we effectively and robustly address them in collaboration with the local authority. We always strive to prepare our young people for the next step beyond Attivo Care, and each young person has access to our independence workbook.

The staff team listens to, records, and reviews the views and opinions of our young people, and the manager ensures that we act on all reasonable requests. If we are unable to grant a request, we explain why to the young person and document it. “Attivo,” which means “active,” embodies our core values. Our staff provide opportunities for each young person to participate in activities and actively encourage them to do so. An active mind helps deflect negative thought processes for our young people. We encourage them to get involved in planning not only activities but also meal choices and to take responsibility for cooking for themselves and others in the home. We always strive for improvement, and the manager regularly solicits feedback from all stakeholders involved and responds appropriately to any complaints received.
